As a result of her mother's ten-year experience of dementia, Sarah Reed developed a passion for improving the care of people living with dementia. Her experience of thirty years working as a designer and part-time University lecturer and examiner in visual communication inspired the publication of Many Happy Returns Chatterbox cards 1940s and 1950s which can now be found in over nine thousand family homes, care homes and hospitals across the country.
In 2009, she researched and developed the evidence base for the REAL Communication model. This provides the basis of good relational care in care settings through interactive 'studio-based' workshops for carers. In the last seven years, workshops have been delivered to thousands of professional carers across the UK. The ethos and principles of REAL Communication are central to Norfolk and Suffolk Dementia Alliance blended training programme, winning the Gold Award at the 2014 Performance Learning Awards.
She works in partnership with three highly-experienced, committed and skilled dementia care trainers to deliver interactive REAL Communication workshops.
More recently, Sarah has established a private consultation practice for families struggling to care for older relatives with dementia using Skype and online tools.
