Connecting the Generations

We all like to connect and share, but sometimes it can be more challenging across the generations, especially if the older person is living with dementia. When we hear more about the person’s life, how they looked at the world as a younger person and what they enjoyed doing, it helps us to understand them better now. When we know the person better, we can care for them better.

Following research into how memory works, especially in dementia, we asked over 160 people from 65 to 99 years old about happy memories from their past. We explored the subjects they told us about to develop, design and publish two sets of cards featuring everyday life in the 40s and 50s.

Each set contains 26 large-size picture cards with background information and conversational triggers, to prompt instant, real conversation, story sharing and fun for anyone remembering their youth, helping us to reconnect with them.

Many Happy Customers

"I discovered Chatterbox prompt cards by chance at an Action on Hearing Loss meeting where the facilitator used a box of cards to break the ice. I realised the Chatterbox series would be useful among people living with dementia and therefore purchased a box to give to the staff of a care home where my wife is a resident. The staff thought they are a great idea in that environment".
Mr Peter D
"I ordered Chatterbox Cards and the book 'In the Garden'. The cards were enjoyed very much and really helped to prompt memory and conversation. We haven't tried the book yet".
Pauline Ward
"Good quality product which will help my grandad talk about his life to his great grandchildren".

"My dad has dementia and I sometimes feel at a loss to initiate meaningful conversation. The cards i purchase are very useful and I am delighted with them. My dad chats about each one and it’s amazing what triggers the memory. I can vividly see his enjoyment and it’s an activity we can do together. I live in Dublin and the order process is very user-friendly (if a little on the expensive side when all considered). Many thanks, overall very happy with products".
Mrs Tilly F
"It is a birthday present for a friend who has dementia following a brain aneurysm last year. It looks an ideal conversational point both for our friend and visitors alike. Can't wait to hear the reaction. Thank you".
Mrs G W
"Thanks for dispatching the set of pictures so quickly. My mother and I enjoyed looking at them and chatting about what she remembered about the 1940s. I am sure that I'll return to the website and order another product".
Diana
"I bought these cards for my father and they have proved very successful to get him and others chatting about their past. Not only very entertaining but also extremely interesting because the cards can provoke memories and stories that would otherwise have remained hidden or forgotten forever. They have helped recall experiences that are interesting for all the family to hear and share. Delivery was very prompt too".
